how many days had it been since he had been in the library. it was kind of sad that he could be found here. even if he didn't want to be found. a small sigh escaped his lips as he wandered the aisles. he wasn't sure what he was looking for. after all he was taking a break from working on his homework. that was a lie. he had already completed his homework. its why he was here in the first place. doing his homework in his room or in the commons was never an ideal place for him. he would eventually become distracted. his fingers ran along the spines of the books. finally settling his sights on one. his hand wasn't the only that reached for it."oh sorry. go ahead and take the book."adrian smiled politely.

i just want to start this over
Lily was quite glad to be back at Hogwarts after a rather long summer holiday. It had not been any longer than usual, but things had taken a turn for the worse during the aftermath of her O.W.L. exams. Her lips thinned somewhat as she recalled what had happened, but she had been trying to keep her mind off of it for months. She had so much to look forward to this year, and she wanted to relish her last two years of Hogwarts before graduating. Lily was sure many of the other students would wonder how she was enjoying her last two years by spending most of her free time in the library. At times she did wonder why the Sorting Hat had not considered Ravenclaw for her with the amount of books she read. Her lips quirked into an amused smile as she perused the mostly empty aisles.
The weather was still warm enough to enjoy and the students had not been piled up with too much homework as of yet. No, Lily simply preferred the quiet of the library for now. She would rather not run into anyone unsavory as of yet and getting her work done before it was due was simply a habit of hers. She adjusted her messenger bag over her shoulder as she looked over the various titles on the shelves. What did she want to check out? Lily had her textbooks to use for her essays, but she would like something to read in her free time when she was done. Perhaps the Tales of Beedle the Bard? It had been awhile since she had enjoyed any Wizard fairytales. Her green eyes focused on the title she had been searching for and reached out for it.
Pale cheeks flushed a faint pink when she noticed her hand had not been the only one reaching for the book. Lily glanced up at the dark haired man with a slightly sheepish smile in place. “Oh, no, it’s quite alright. Really. If you wanted it, then go ahead. I can find another copy,” she reassured. He had been the one to get to it first, so it was only fair that he got to check it out.

maybe he should of packed up his things and went off to take a nap or something. he hadn't been sleeping all to well lately. mostly it was due to noisy dorm mates that seemed to be stumbling in from all hours of the night. how they didn't manged to get caught was another student. he didn't want to know. it wasn't like he was dying to go out and party till he dropped. a small yawn escaped through his lips as he shoved his things into his bag and just left it on the table. he wasn't going to be too far away and he really didn't think someone was going to snatch his bag. after all, all that was inside his bag was homework. he could just imagine someone really enjoying to do homework. he really wasn't looking for a specific book to read. he was just trying to pass the time before he left the library. around this time the common room was probably packed and in complete chaos. ravenclaws were often seen as the quiet serious type. some did not fit the mold. he continued down the aisle as his eyes spotted a book. it seemed like someone had the same idea. he smiled and grabbed the book only to hand it to her."its no problem, honestly i was just going to flip through it. i don't need it."

Lily was pleasantly surprised when he grabbed the book and handed it to her. It would not have been such a hassle to let him have the book while she searched for another copy. She had left her own copy of her book back at home when she realized she had not had enough room in her trunk to fit all of her books. She really had to try to cast an undetectable extension charm on her trunk sometime, since she really did have too many possessions to keep track of. No doubt it would be a tricky spell to cast, but it would certainly be nice to be able to bring everything she wanted to Hogwarts. Lily smiled gratefully as she tucked the book beneath her arm. Best to be careful with the book or Madam Pince was glare her into an early grave.
“Thank you. I forgot my own back at home,” she admitted. Perhaps she could convince her parents to owl it to her. Lily wondered how her sister would react to the sudden owl right at the beginning of the term. An amusing thought even if it was a bittersweet one. Now there was the awkward pause of whether she should attempt to make a conversation or continue down the aisle. She recognized him as a seventh year, but only because she liked to try and keep track of the students as a Prefect. Lily would like to try and find a good topic, since he had been nice enough to let her have the book. Her green eyes flickered to the bag slung over his shoulder much like her own.
“Is the workload even worse in seventh year? It feels like I just finished my O.W.L.s and the Professors are already preparing us for N.E.W.T.s, and I still have a year before I really have to worry about them.”

her question brought a smile to his face. it wasn't often that he met other students that were interested to see what it was like being in another year. yes, there were the social side to it, but rarely did anyone ask how the homework was."you're not a ravenclaw are you?"he asked her jokingly. he wasn't amazing with remembering the people in his house. after all that seemed nearly impossible, after all there were hundreds or more, students attending hogwarts. it made things harder to pick up on what house people were in. again that made him think that people were not defined by what houses they were placed in. they were their own people, though others seemed to fit in the specific house than others. currently adrian was not dressed in his uniform. he had finished his lessons and quickly changed out of the uniform. he didn't like matching with everyone else. not that the uniforms were bad. he had seen worse. he just liked his own style of clothing. he figured he'd answer her question and not leave her hanging."well, it really depends on the professor and how well you keep up with assignments."adrian said with a nod."it might seem like tons of homework, if you let it pile up."though she didn't seem like the type to procrastinate.

Lily wondered the same thing herself at times with the amount of time she spent studying. The Sorting Hat had placed her in Gryffindor only after a few seconds of being placed upon her head. It was a relief to see her question had not been viewed with skepticism, since she knew some students would rather avoid all talk of school work outside of the classroom. Getting the perspective of a seventh year would be nice, though. Lily had been hoping for a slight break after her O.W.L.s, but that seemed to be nothing more than a pleasant dream now. Soon enough she really would have to consider what sort of career she would want after she graduated. Her interest in Potions had her seriously considering a career as a Healer.
“No, I’m a lion. I just really like to study,” Lily replied with a light laugh. It was always better to stay on top of her work before it really piled up. Now if only she could convince some of her friends to come to the library to study with her. Honestly, it was like pulling teeth, which was why she spent most of her time working by herself. His answer fell in line with what she had thought it would be. As long as she kept up on her work like she did last year, then everything would be fine. Hopefully. Well, she had a year before she would officially go crazy over exams. Why worry too much about them now?
“So, a repeat of O.W.L.s, but more final. Thanks for the advice, though.” Lily was sure any of her other worries could be addressed by Professor McGonagall. “Oh, I’m sorry. I’m Lily Evans. And your name?”

he sighed internally. he was relieved that she wasn't someone he was suppose to know. like mentioned before. adrian was terrible at remember names. faces he could recall just fine, but make him add a name to that face and he would have a bit of trouble. of course he did manage to have a little mnemonic trick up his sleeve. really he wouldn't need it if he managed to remember their names for the most part. usually the ones that ended up in his memory log were the ones that he talked to the most. friends and obviously family. he smiled and nodded when she told him she belonged to the house of gryffindor."haha, that's cool. never would of guessed it. of course i shouldn't be going around judging people from afar."he supposed that the hat knew what it was doing. after all it would be out of a job if it placed students in the wrong house. does the hat even have a salary? what would it go out to buy. he was getting distracted by his silly questions. he nodded at her comment."pretty much. i guess its suppose to be more defined for whatever you plan on making your career. like they are trying to lay a foundation...sorry im terrible at trying to explain...things"adrian said with a laugh."well its nice to meet you lily, im adrian marter."

Lily was used to a few of the younger or older students mistaking her for a Ravenclaw. It was rather flattering, since she really did admire the intellect of her fellow sixth years in house of knowledge. She most certainly preferred studying with them than the more rowdy students in Gryffindor. Just thinking of the Marauders had her suppressing the urge to scowl. As if she wished for the mere thought of them to ruin her relatively good mood. Besides, she was enjoying her conversation with this seventh year. Lily was accustomed to some of the boys giving her a wide berth with how often James Potter tried to pursue her. As if she would ever do so. The Giant Squid was preferable to that prat.
“It’s not a problem. I know a lot of us Gryffindors seem to be more into pranks than school work.” It was better to be judged by her house rather than her blood status at least. Lily hated those that viewed her as being no better than dirt simply because she came from a Muggle background. She had learned early on that there was just as much, if not more, prejudice in the Wizarding world as there was in the Muggle world. Lily quickly pushed those more morose thoughts from her mind, though. Thinking too much on it only made her angry and disappointed in the unfairness of it.
“No need to apologize. I’m just relieved to hear it can’t be worse than O.W.L.s. I enjoy my class work, but I don’t to be buried under it like last year.” It seemed like the entirety of her fifth year had been taken up by endless studying and essays. The Professors could be overwhelming in what they assigned for homework. “Likewise, Adrian. Did you have any homework you need to finish? Perhaps we could work together,” Lily offered with a bright smile.

he was glad to know she wasn't one of those uptight students. that made everything to be terrible, even a joke. back in the day, he couldn't say he was exactly like that. he just wasn't social much. he wouldn't even look at you in the hallway or in class. he gave of this leave me alone vibe. that seemed to work fairly well. for most students anyways, there were some that managed to break down that barrier. of course it wasn't like adrian didn't put up a fight. to be honest he was glad he lost."right, well you know what they say. don't judge a book by its cover."adrian smiled slightly. his mother would always be telling of her her stories and that phrase would pop up. he smiled at her words. it did seem like he had been apologizing way to much. or maybe it was just him. in any case he was glad that their conversation managed to keep going. it wasn't often people wanted the same book. her suggestion had caught him by surprise. to be honest he was done with his homework but he was sure he could occupy his time by getting ahead on reading or something."to be honest all i have left is reading, but if you're still up for it, sure."he said returning her smile."where are you sitting? i'll just grab my bag and sit at your table."he said with a nod as he began to move towards the table that had his bag.

Lily knew her sense of humor was not the greatest, but she could take a joke if it was harmless enough. Honestly, she did not even mind a prank every now and then as long as no one became injured in the process. Either way, she was enjoying the conversation. Perhaps she would be able to take a peek at his classwork to get a better idea of what her seventh year would be like. Lily liked to prepare herself as best as possible when it came to her classes. Sometimes she wondered if she was a little too much of a teacher’s pet at times. There were times when she felt like she had to prove herself just as capable as anyone that had been born into a magical family. Her blood status did not mean she was any less intelligent than those claiming otherwise.
Her expression brightened at the expression he used, which only reassured her more than this seventh year cared very little about blood status. Lily always enjoyed finding someone friendly to socialize with and she was doing so. Most of her friends consisted of those in her year or those that shared her dormitory. “Oh, that’s not a problem. I just have to finish my Potions essay and I should be good for the rest of the day.” The proper way to brew Amortenia and the potential hazards of actually giving the potion to an unsuspecting victim. It was one potion she hoped she was never forced to try.
Lily waited while Adrian went to grab his bag to seek out a good table. There were not too many students in her, which was nice. No doubt that would change once the work really began to pile up. Her green eyes zoned in on a table settled by a window with some sunlight streaming in. Lily smiled brightly before leading Adrian over to it. She set her bag down before pulling out a chair and sitting. Rummaging through her bag, she pulled out her Potions essay, textbook, quill and a bottle of ink. Everything she need to hopefully finish the conclusion to her essay.

adrian was naturally a laid back kind of guy. he really didn't care what others had or what they lacked. they were who they were and adrian respected that, for the most part. if they were going out of their way to be assholes, then that was a different story. he never really understood why others had to go and put people down. its not like the person did anything wrong for being who they are. there seemed to be a lot of that late. people thinking they are better than someone else just because they have more money, or because their blood is better than theirs. blood it blood. that's how adrian saw it. it shouldn't define who you are, just like what house you were placed doesn't define you entirely. he figured that discrimination could be found every where, if you looked close enough. he smiled in agreement to joining her and he was off to grab his things and returned. he began to follow her."potions, fun times."he said jokingly. he didn't like potions all to much, it just never caught his attention. transfiguration and charms now he could spend ages studying that....well maybe not ages. he figured that they could have any table they wanted. it had been a bit early when adrian decided to show up. well after class early. not many people he knew were up to getting homework done right after class. even he had his moments of laziness. he followed her looking for any good spots. well it seemed like there were some students loitering around. placing his bag on the table, he sat closer to the window. which didn't seem like such a bad idea at the time, but adrian was prone to stare out the window whenever he's bored. sitting opposite lily, he began to take out his charms book."so is potions you're favorite class?"he figured he could talk a bit while they worked.

Lily knew that Potions was not the most exciting class for some students. There was just something about wholly concentrating on brewing the perfect potion that kept her entire attention focused on the assignment she was given. It was one of her favorite subjects and she had always done quite well in it. Her Potioneer skills were not as inventive as Snape’s, but she rarely ever obtained a mark beneath an Outstanding. Her next favorite subject had to be a tie between Charms and Transfiguration. Lily could think of her favorite subjects for hours, though. Surely Adrian would grow rather bored if she indulged in her excitement of speaking of the various subjects of Hogwarts. No doubt even a Ravenclaw would grow weary of such a topic.
She dipped her quill into the quill and began to write her conclusion. Her quill scratched against the parchment before she noticed that Adrian had asked her a question. Lily flashed him a sheepish smile, “Oh, yes, Potions is my favorite. I enjoy brewing potions and finding new ways to improve on them. What’s your favorite subject?” Certainly not Potions with his sarcastic remark earlier. What other subjects did he take? Hogwarts certainly offered a wide variety of subjects to study. She wondered if she should apply to take Alchemy next year for her final year.
Her green eyes flickered to see Adrian with his Charms textbook. Was that his favorite? Lily reminded herself to start on her Charms essay tomorrow morning during her free period. She liked to finish her assignments early, but doing one essay so soon after another did not appeal to her too much. It would be nice to be just a little lazy for once.
