Iain blew up his cheeks and sighed. "Really though?" he said. "I never thought about it like this," he admitted mumbling and frowning. This was a little confusing. He got out a clean pot and poured the coffee in there, trying to ignore the matter. He was wrong in so many ways, what if he was wrong like this too? Would it matter if he was? He drew a deep breath, exhaled through his nose and picked up their coffee. It was a lot of it, but the pot was charmed to keep it warm and prevent it from going stale, so that was good. He picked up two clean mugs in his other hand. "Let's go?" Iain literally wanted to leave this conversation behind, by shutting the door on it. He needed to stop thinking about this.
The hug made him smile, he had needed that for a bit. "The real reason is probably because I would be a really rubbish boyfriend. I'd forget everything, for starters, possibly even my girlfriend's name, anyway." He shrugged it off. He didn't need a girlfriend. "Aye, all finished, let's go get caffeine-high." He grinned lopsidedly and nodded, trying to dig deep into the remnants of his sugarhigh to get his enthusiasm back. He linked his arm with Dorcas again, the one with the mugs, not the one with the coffee. He wasn't willing to slosh hot drinks on his friend, after all!

[/style] Dorcas could see that their new topic had made Iain think about things he never should have worried about. She noticed that about him - that oftentimes he seemed insecure about what people thought about him. Sure, he wasn't a typical manly guy, but he was one of the funnest friends she'd ever had. Iain was kind, loyal, and generous. He never let a friend down, and Doe loved him for it. His silence made her quickly drop the subject, and she was glad when he was finally ready to leave. Being in a different setting was sure to wash away his worry.
"I'm sure you'd be a great boyfriend," Doe said kindly, looping her arm with his again as they walked out. "As long as you can be a good friend, you can be a good lover," she explained, nudging him playfully. And although she acted playful about the subject, it was true. She'd learned over the years that it was far better to establish a firm friendship and introduce love later on, even if it did complicate matters on certain levels. One could surely have crushes and relationships with people that weren't friends originally, but she was a firm believer in that having a good friendship with someone was the best way to ensure happiness on both accounts.
They quickly rounded the bend out of the kitchens and turned toward the common room, hopping through the hole as always. As they neared the fire, she unhooked her arm from his and nestled into the couch. It was there that she noticed a familiar ping-ing on the window. Her gaze turned to the glass, where she found several large raindrops plopping against the window pane. "Ah, rain," she said soothingly, as if being healed. "It's always so...relaxing, isn't it?"

He locked the matter away in the back of his mind, but it was still there. Iain tried not to share his insecurer side. People seemed to expect him to be bubbly and upbeat, so that's what he tried to be. When things got too much it was usually only Cailean who got to see the tantrum about it and the tears that inevitably followed. For now, he was just glad they could focus on something else and go back to the common room.
Iain couldn't help but snort a little when Doe told him he had the potential to be a great boyfriend. "Nice of you to say, but nah - I'd be rubbish and we know it," he joked laughing, shaking his head. He wasn't so sure that being a good friend could be equated to being a good lover - it was so different, even if a large part of it was the same. Teasingly, he poked her side (he knew where she was ticklish) and winked at her cheekily. "Still think I'm a good friend now?" he challenged, poking again - paying no attention that he was also carrying a pot of hot coffee of course.
He relaxed significantly after they entered the common room, putting the coffee and mugs on the floor and sitting down on the carpet. Iain leaned back against the sofa and crossed his legs, sitting akimbo. He poured them both some coffee and reached up to hand Dorcas' hers, as she was sitting pretty much directly above him. He could've sat on the sofa, but he liked this carpet and the room it gave him, even if he wasn't stretching his legs now. Iain cradled the mug in his hands, fingers laced, and just quietly enjoyed the tingle of heat against the pads of his fingers. He only noticed the rain when Doe mentioned it and looked up at the windows, smiling a bit. "It is," he agreed. "When you're inside, anyway - and as long as it isn't a thunderstorm." The electricity in the air always only seemed to make Iain more energetic himself.

[/style] Dorcas laughed as he poked her. "HEY!" she giggled, grabbing her side where his finger prodded again. Laughing, she gave him a playful yet threatening expression. "Maybe you're not a good friend," she said, trying to sound mean but gave up as another giggle left her. "Just kidding, of course," Doe said quickly, leaning her head on his shoulder before they reached the common room.
Doe watched him take a seat below her on the floor, then reached over and grabbed the mug that he extended her way. "Thank you kind sir," she answered properly, giving another giggle. She cradled the warm mug in her cold hands - cold because they seemed to always be that way, even in summer weather. She brought the mug to her lips and breathed in the scent, letting it fill her senses as the tea did. The tea was more soothing for her previous stomach ache, but the coffee's warmth made her feel even more calm. "Mmm," she hummed as she took a sip, though almost burned the tip of her tongue.
Her eyes glanced back to the window as he mentioned 'from inside.' "Oh, you don't like dancing in the rain then?" she asked, grinning. Doe gave a quick shrug. "I do anyway...but I get sick too often to do it. Mum figured that out the hard way when I used to sneak out of the house during rainstorms," she explained, then grinned back at him. "I like thunderstorms - just not lightening," she added, then gazed at the fire crackling in front of them. With another sip of her coffee, she realized that if they kept this up, she'd fall asleep in no time.

"See!" he stuck out his tongue at her. "I'm a rubbish friend for making you laugh," Iain joked. He chuckled and rested his head on hers until they walked into the common room (trying to manoeuvre yourself through a portrait hole with linked arms and your head sideways whilst holding coffee and mugs was a little tricky even for Iain). He wiggled on the floor a little until he was sitting comfortably and sipped his coffee, not caring if his throat blistered. The distinctive flavour lingered in his mouth as the warmth settled in his stomach and he sighed with a smile. This was good, this was better, even if he was probably going to get a caffeine rush later on now.
Iain looked slightly confused when she asked if he didn't like dancing in the rain. "Of course I do!" he exclaimed. "But you said rain is relaxing - it's relaxing when you're inside. When you're outside, it's exhilerating." He grinned widely. "Unless you get cold after, though. Sometimes it feels colder than it is," he added in an after thought. "Still, you should try flying in the rain - even better than dancing." He nodded, more to himself, and sipped his coffee. "Why not the lightning?" he asked, cocking his head. "Most people would say they didn't like the thunder, I suppose, as it's loud and all."

[/style] Doe listened to his excited voice, and smiled whilst doing so. Iain had this manner about him that was serious in all sakes, but playful and completely longing. She giggled again. "We may just have to become rain dance partners some day," she admitted, sure the idea was probably crazy. But it'd be a whole lot of fun - even if she did get ill after.
"GAH! You know I'm not fond of brooms..." she said, frowning. "Or maybe you didn't?" Doe mumbled, thinking of herself. Had she actually even mentioned her distaste for being so high up in the air on a stick? She wasn't sure. "Back when I was ten, Dad made me try flying and I fell and broke my arm," she explained, unsure if she'd ever told the tale to him or not. It wasn't a memory she liked to look back on, really, so it was possible it'd never been brought up. "I managed to get over my fear of flying in...fifth year? But...I still don't prefer it," Doe finished, squishing up her nose like she smelled something bad.
The topic of thunder versus lightening made her look back to the window, where a bolt of light lit up the pane and made her jump. She rolled her eyes at herself and turned back to Iain. "Actually, I dunno why...thunder just makes a good backdrop for rain, I guess. Lightening is so...I dunno, makes me feel like I'm about to die,' she said, then laughed. She knew her theory was strange, but at least it was honest. It was just one of those things that made her feel uneasy, she supposed.

He took another couple of large gulps of coffee, laughing into his mug after swallowing. "I'd drag you outside right now, but I think you wouldn't like it," Iain said as he saw lightning flash. Getting on his feet, he opened a window and nestled himself in the window sill to look up at the sky. "Hm, yes, I think you told me? Sorry- I'm forgetful. Still.." He glanced up at the clouds again. "I wish I were a Ravenclaw or Gryffindor just so we'd have a tower." Iain turned to face Dorcas again, back to the angry weather (and getting slightly wet, but that was okay). He nodded a little at the story of her breaking her arm because of flying when she was younger. He could relate - he'd fallen off his broom and hurt himself plenty of time and hurt, well.. that was a powerful reminder to not do something again. (Not for Iain, but usually anyway.) "Well, you don't need to like everything, right?" Iain smiled. "No one likes everything."
"You mean like you're afraid to get struck by lightning?" he asked. "Because Cailean told me that most people survive that, if it makes you feel any better?" Doe needn't worry about feeling strange around Iain. He was the epitome of strange.

Iain smiled and finished his coffee in one go. That was good. Another now. He hopped off the windowsill, leaving the window wide open still, and poured himself a second mug. "Trust me, I'm sure there'll be plenty of rain yet to dance in in the future," he joked. Scotland - the country of rain and sheep.
"You want some more, too?" he asked, holding up the pot so Doe only had to hold out her mug and he could give her a refill if she wanted. He was just wondering if they should just sit and chat or actually do something when she suggested Exploding Snap. "Of course!" Exploding Snap was very much Iain's sort of game - fast, chaotic, and with a possibility of losing an eyebrow. "You want to play Classical or Patience?" Iain asked, digging up his wand from his pocket.

[/style] "Sure thing," Dorcas replied, holding out her mug for Iain to fill. Once to the brim, she cradled the mug in her hands for a moment. She savored the scent. In all honesty, Doe probably enjoyed the scent of coffee moreso than the flavor. It tended to leave a sticky feeling on the end of her tongue if she drank too much. But she knew it was one of Iain's favorites. Besides, she did like it, but this would probably be her final mug. Then, she'd just fetch some water from her trunk where she stored some in bottles.
She grinned as he enthused about the card game. "Uh, let's stick to Classical," Dorcas offered, then took out her wand and flicked it at the main table before the fire, removing the things there and setting them on the table near the wall. Once done, she moved off the sofa and sat down on the floor, sure Iain would sit across from her. She examined her wand as she waited for him to summon the cards. Exploding Snap was a fun game, tricky though at times. Patience was much more hectic than Classical, but as her eyes seemed to be becoming droopy with each sip of coffee and each crackle of flame, she didn't really need anything popping at her eyebrows.

Iain filled her mug and then put the pot out of the way again. Unlike Dorcas, he only got more energy when drinking coffee. Carrying his own coffee over to the table, he sat down opposite his friend and summoned the cards that had to be somewhere in the common room. There was always a deck of cards around somewhere. "Classic exploding snap it is!" he said, shaking the cards from the carton and performing a basic shuffling spell. "So.. ready to get your tiny little butt kicked?" he challenged with a wide grin, twirling his wand between his fingers.

[/style] She pulled out her own wand as he performed the shuffling spell. Doe watched as the cards quickly shuffled and then she looked up at him, scoffing. "Psh! Me and my tiny little butt are ready to kick yours!" she shouted, laughing. She aimed her wand just above the table and flipped over the card in the middle - a wand.
Doe then watched as her first card, and Iain's, flipped over - hers a unicorn and his a goblet. She looked at him curiously as the next card flipped over faster, looking down at it. It was a wand! "SNAP!" she shouted, hoping he didn't have a wand, too.

Iain chuckled. "My arse is not planning to be kicked, Doe, it has a mind of its own," he teased, winking. He sat up straight, concentrating on the game and having his wand at the ready. Unfortunately, his card wasn't a wand but a cauldron, so he couldn't have gotten points even if he'd wanted to. "Aw!" he complained, then laughed as Dorcas claimed her first win. "This means nothing, I'm still going to beat you," he promised, getting ready for the next card.
[Perhaps.. this is a good time to say I do not now how Snap works even in normal life *fail*]

[/style] "YES!" she cheered, looking at Iain's cauldron. Doe stuck out her tongue at him and laughed. "Oh, I am going to win, Mr. Murray," she giggled. Dorcas then looked down at the cards again - her own was a broomstick, the face card was a bottle of ink. She bit her lip as she watched Iain's card flip over.
[i've never played it in real life, but from what i gather is that it's sort of like a matching game. the cards magically flip themselves over and there are three piles - the deck, doe's own pile, and iain's pile. the deck flips over and then doe and iain's flip over at the same time, and whoever has the face card shouts 'snap,' and the first won who says it wins the point. with each round the cards flip faster. oh and i think maybe we should only actually play like this round...and then say they played a couple and finally were finished cause it might get old going back and forth about a card game. xD]

Iain stuck out his tongue, keeping his smart-ass comments to himself and focusing on the next card that flipped. He was more in luck this time, as his card matched the deck's. "Snap!" he shouted, tapping them with his wand quickly. "Hah, shouldn't have taunted me, Meadowes," he teased.
[I've only played the patience-version of snap (which we call 'splat' because we always try and smack each other's hands as hard as we can), so just checking. Not sure where the explosions come in, lol - at random? And yeah, we should prolly skip a bit xD]
